Small Frightened People

In his latest transformation of the “enemy”, the president bush would have us believe that “Islamo-fascists” are poised to descend on the ‘good christian people’ of Amerika, like a monolithic horde of ravenous locusts, in an apocalyptic vision from a bad LSD trip, and so he wants to torture people. Badly wants to. The CCMA* hasn’t yet, at least to my knowledge, presented this as the ravings of a lunatic.

“The Enlightened One, the ‘Decider’, and Protector of the Realm, by the Grace of God, and Anointed by the Blood of His Son, Jesus”, has lost whatever tenuous hold on reality he may have had.

In a news conference in the White House Rose Garden, Bush also emphatically rejected a statement by his former secretary of state, retired Gen. Colin L. Powell, that "the world is beginning to doubt the moral basis of our fight against terrorism." Bush said it was "unacceptable" to compare the actions of America with those of Islamic extremists who commit mass murder to achieve their goals.

"If there's any comparison between the compassion and decency of the American people and the terrorist tactics of extremists, it's flawed logic," Bush said, his voice rising. "It's unacceptable to think that there's any kind of comparison between the behavior of the United States of America and the action of Islamic extremists who kill innocent women and children to achieve an objective."
- president bush, Sept 15, 2006

georgie, georgie, tell me the difference between flying an airplane into a building full of innocent people and dropping 500 pound bombs on that building? I don’t see it. Tell me the logic.

"It's like -- it's very vague. What does that mean, outrages upon human dignity? That's a statement that is wide open to interpretation."
- the bush

You’ve seen the pictures from Abu Graib, george. Would you consider that outrages upon human dignity? What about the rapes and murder that went on? Forced to stand naked for hours at a time? Where do YOU draw the line? Tell us what you think would be ok. I doubt you will, because you don’t want the world to know what a sicko pervert you really are. Geez, I don’t know how to tell you this. You showed them yesterday. What a spectacle. The President of the United States of America goes to the Congress to demand, that’s right, demand, that he be allowed to torture people, and keep them in prison forever without charge, and to kill them without them ever knowing why. That’s not going to make karen hughes’ job any easier.

And the Congress? They are actually debating this. For over 50 years there has been no debate, no question. Why now? For decades America fearlessly faced the actual threat of annihilation from Soviet nuclear weapons. And now the american people have allowed themselves to be turned into a quivering mass of frightened children, scared of the monster under the bed, by bush and his cohorts. Small frightened people looking for reassurance and safety. “…home of the brave”, my ass.
